It doesn't necessarily mean anything negative about them as a company, developer or publisher of games. They still have to choose a prospective IP and build a relationship with those studios even if they are 3rd party. They don't want just shooters.

With big homie Phil, MS won't be no punk this gen, but Sony has some haymakers like Foreman...! MS needs to drop the Kinect SKU and then work from there before it expects to land any serious punches. I don't think they'll out-compete Sony in delivering content at any time soon, and price has MS on the defensive.

Then almost every market would be a niche according to your misleading definition. A niche is going to be based on competencies you only have or barriers to entry that keeps competition out from your segment or niche of the overall market.

I wish my PS4 had more media function - DLNA, mp3 playback, Youtube - but I don't NEED it for that. Same with the XBOne.
Ain't worried. The Playstation brand would be swiped up if Sony had to restructure and sell it off. Funny thing, it is probably just as likely that the XBOne will be the last foray for MS in gaming, and it might be sold off as well. It is just not a profitable as other businesses for MS.

Loyalty to a MNC is somewhat laughable at least on any emotional level. But having a company that is reliable and responsive is a special thing, and I reward SCE with my patronage.
I know we number over 100 million as a market, but we are still relatively small compared to the market share of TVs, cameras, computers and other consumer electronics.

You are right. Everything feels like it switched from last gen. PS4 being a lead in development is just one example. Still, I think this is a non-issue depending on the resources and ability of the devs; I think the XBOne's learning curve is nowhere as bad as the PS3. Devs aren't whining afaik and games generally look the same to me.
So it has to be jealousy. XBOne fandudes haven't lost out on any of Bungies games yet. Just because Sony dudes can play 'em ...

I feel the same about this like I do timed exclusives that come out more than a year later on a competing console - don't charge over $40 if it was a $60 game and we're cool.
